Alta Blackjack is less than an hour from the Salt Lake International Airport.
For many, a vacation that starts by air automatically implies the need to rent a vehicle. That imperative is not a foregone conclusion at Alta Blackjack.
If your main objective in coming here is to ski (or snowboard) and you plan to stay in Little Cottonwood Canyon throughout your stay, you might not need a vehicle of your own.
Consider the following to determine your best transportation options.

Airport Shuttle
A shuttle can pick you, your traveling partners and all of your gear up at the airport and will drive you right to the the Alta Blackjack front door. Then, the shuttle will take you from door to airport on the day of your departure.
With fully equipped kitchens, several restaurants to choose from in the canyon, ski in ski out access, and shuttle service to the resort throughout the ski day and to local eateries at night, you might consider taking a shuttle to and from the airport in lieu of renting a car.

Free shuttle to Alta Ski Area. Runs Daily.
The Alta Resort Shuttle is like your personal lift on wheels.
It runs from approximately the second week in December until the end of April
(check with us for exact dates of operation).
The shuttle does continuous loops around the town of Alta, from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM every day, picking guests up at condos and houses and bringing them straight to their choice of Alta bases- Collins or Sunnyside.
Call the driver anytime for personal service to and from the resort or other Alta locations.

Shuttle drivers are friendly and attentive, the bus is easy to board and easily accommodates skis and other equipment. It is fast (the loop is small, the shuttle is never more than 10 minutes from any stop), free and easy. It becomes part of the skiing fun. Gratuity always appreciated.

Evening Shuttle. Runs Nightly.
There are several restaurants in Little Cottonwood Canyon.
They can be accessed by an on call evening shuttle.
It runs from 6:00PM-10:00PM nightly from mid December to mid April.

Rent a 4 wheel drive suv
Keep in mind, due to the potential for huge snowfall, it is strongly recommended that you reserve a 4 wheel drive vehicle or consider a shuttle service in lieu of vehicle. Although every effort is made to keep roads clear, there are may times throughout a storm cycle where 2 wheel drive cars are not allowed on the road. When they are permitted, often they present a hazard and a hinderance to you and the travelers you share the road with.
Within Walking Distance!
Sometimes, all you need are your feet! We occupy such an incredible position in Little Cottonwood Canyon! Snowbird Ski Resort, Alta Ski Area and all of the local restaurants are within a mile or two. For the hearty guest, walking is an option.

There is a Utah Transit Authority city bus that services both Alta and Snowbird making regular stops up and down Little Cottonwood Canyon.
